Pickleball has been a favorite outdoor activity for years in resort communities in California, Arizona and Florida.
Snowbirds and others who first learned of and became players of the game in these locales quickly became enthralled with this new sport. Pickleball is aerobic, easy to learn and fun to play. It was these people who upon returning to their permanent homes, began approaching their local senior centers, YMCAs and community centers to start pickleball programs. And start they did.
Today, pickleball is being played in 5,000+ locations nationwide, up from 750 in 2010. Most of these locations only offering pickleball indoors on a drop-in basis. I am certain that this growth will continue as more communities begin adapting under-utilized outdoor tennis courts for pickleball.
Pickleball has come to Hilton Head Island, as well. Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort has started the Island’s first dedicated Pickleball Center on eight outdoor courts. The Palmetto Dunes Pickleball Center has instructional pickleball programs for beginner and intermediate players. It offers daily opportunities for players to play in round robins or drop-ins. Pickleball is a great family sport. Come see us and join the revolution.
