Visitors to Hilton Head Island enjoy trying their hand at this fun sport that is on the rise.
During the first week of November, the Palmetto Dunes Pickleball Center hosted the only pickleball program offered by the Road Scholar program. The Road Scholar program is an internationally recognized and acclaimed not-for-profit organization (formerly known as Elderhostel). Their mission is to open minds to new ideas of things on the rise, people and cultures and to engage people for whom learning is a journey of a lifetime.
The Palmetto Dunes Pickleball Center provided more than 18 hours of on-court instruction and playtime. 21 participants, most of whom were newcomers to the game of pickleball, played. A team of four instructors broke down the game. They explained the goals and objectives of each shot and how to structure points to put you and your team in the best competitive position. The primary goal was to engage people at their level and to inspire them to become better pickleball players.
It’s not surprising that most people playing the game have never had any formal instruction. The good news for Island guests is that you can receive the same level of instruction by participating in lessons and clinics at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis & Pickleball Center. You can also play in one of the round robins. Professional staff supervise and provide ongoing instruction to players interested in improving their game.
