It’s biking! With over 65 miles of leisure trails, Hilton Head has been designated a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, one of only 24 such communities in the U.S.
For Jim and Sue Hall, it just doesn’t get better than experiencing Hilton Head on two wheels. “We’re not cyclist-level bikers,” says Jim, “but we still own the bikes we purchased before we got married 35 years ago, and all of our kids learned how to ride here on the Island.” So when a longtime bicycle business on Arrow Rd. came up for sale, Jim and Sue decided to take the leap, and they signed the paperwork in May of 2020. Despite the awkward timing, the business is humming along two and a half years later. “We have a fleet of 2,500 bikes, 12 trucks, and a great team,” Jim says. “Our two mechanics have each been here for 24 years!”
Something else to know about this particular bike shop is that they now offer quiet, emissions-free, American-made electric bikes!
“Watching people experience e-bikes for the first time is really a thrill,” Jim says. “They are great for so many kinds of riders: commuters, grandparents who want to keep up with their grandkids and visitors who want to be able to relax and focus on all the amazing things you’ll see riding across Hilton Head.”
