Crane’s Tavern has been raising the bar for steak excellence on Hilton Head for over 25 years.

At the start of the 20th century, an Irish immigrant named Frank Crane opened Crane’s Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The tavern closed its doors during Prohibition but reopened in 1933, eventually operating at 333 Queen Lane under the management of Frank’s sons—Francis, Edmund, and Robert. Later, Francis’s son Tom managed the establishment until 1973.
Meanwhile, Francis’s other son, Hank, took the family business in a new direction. After working in the Germantown location, Hank opened his own Crane’s Tavern in Ambler, Pennsylvania, in 1969. Just a few years later, in 1972, he purchased the Surf City Hotel on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, adding another restaurant to the Crane legacy. Hank’s daughter, Beth Anne, managed the hotel until its sale in 1998.
By April 1999, Hank and Beth Anne carried on the family tradition and opened Crane’s Tavern and Steakhouse on Hilton Head Island.
Together, they continued the Crane family’s century-long commitment to serving exceptional food and drinks with warm, attentive service.
