Fall is made for festivals, and there is no shortage of exciting events taking place throughout the area.
With festivals nearly every week, take some cues from our handy guide showcasing a few of the season’s most anticipated happenings! Once you’ve decided on which events to attend, here are some pointers on ways to rock those festivals with a covetable style. From the Italian Heritage Festival to the upcoming Burger, Bacon & BBQ Festival, the Lowcountry sizzles as summer cools down!
Don’t forget about attending one of Hilton Head’s most colorful—and tasty—annual events, the Italian Heritage Festival. Taking place at historic Honey Horn on September 16, the Old Country comes to the Lowcountry when Italian culture meets Island life. A mid-September soiree calls for a mid-length skirt or dress, and there isn’t a better place to try out the powerful red look than at an occasion serving up plenty of red sauces. Take part in both the pizza-eating and grape-stomping contests, savor Italian specialties like gelato and dance to the sounds of live music without missing a beat.
Keep your weekend free near the end of the month and ride over to Bluffton’s historic Calhoun Street for a unique taste experience and Lowcountry staple: The Bluffton Boiled Peanut Festival. The September 23 off-Island venture is worth it for this celebration of goober peas complete with a boiled peanut cookoff resulting in an array of nutty flavors, from classic to creative! If you need an excuse to wear any of the boho chic pieces you purchased this summer, look no further. Boiled peanuts are South Carolina’s official state snack, and Bluffton just happens to be home to the World’s Largest Boiled Peanut—providing
the perfect backdrop for a stylish and memorable photo. A modern bohemian style look with a print dress, jean jacket, cowboy boots and basic black clutch is the ideal look for this hospitable event in eclectic Bluffton, SC.

The first weekend of October is reserved for the Burger, Bacon & BBQ Festival in Shelter Cove Community Park. Make sure to head out for this carnivorous event to enjoy sliders of every flavor —seafood, beef, pork and lamb—along with bacon, BBQ and dozens of different beers washed down with live music. Bring the little ones to the Kid Zone, where they can bounce and play while you vote for your favorite flavors. For this laid-back event in early October, embrace the fall while keeping it causal in a pair of booties and cuffed jeans. Wear layers so you’re prepared to experience all the seasons in one day while celebrating the arrival of fall!
