Hilton Head Island stands apart as a true paradise for the arts in South Carolina, with plenty of national and local talent on display. The island offers a number of world-class venues to showcase work by creative artists from across the United States. From art to theater, this majestic barrier island proudly showcases a wide range of special events, exhibits, concerts and performances throughout the year. Here are a few highlights for the month of August on Hilton Head Island. Don’t miss out on all the fun!

THEATER:
ABSOLUTELY ANDREW –
If you’re a Broadway fan, you’ll want to be sure to catch Absolutely Andrew: A Musical Tribute to the Works of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. This lively musical performance celebrates the achievements of Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of the great musical geniuses of our time and the recipient of seven Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Oscar, two International Emmys, seven Olivier Awards and a Golden Globe. Absolutely Andrew feature unforgettable hits from Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. LIVE MUSIC:
MUSIC FOR A SUMMER NIGHT -
The Hilton Head Choral Society kicks off its 2008-2009 season with a special performance of “Music for a Summer Night” on August 29 at 8 p.m. The concert, which will take place at First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island, will feature crowd-pleasing pops standards from the stage, screen and music charts. A special tribute to award-winning American musical theater composer Richard Rodgers is sure to serve as a highlight of this high-energy tribute to favorite summertime music, featuring the full chorus and orchestra. VISUAL ARTS:
THE APPLE PIE PAINTERS –
Through September 2, the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will feature “Apple Pie Painters: Inspired by Honey Horn,” an art exhibit celebrating the talent of Vickie Ebbers, Mary Kelly, John Norlander, Liz Rufenacht, Barb Snow and Peter Hadfalvi. This group of local artists, who recently celebrated a decade of painting together, welcomed Marilyn Dizikes, Judy McElynn and Alex Sharma to the group three years ago. Each Apple Pie member has been inspired by Honey Horn and the surrounding area. From photographs and oil pastels to watercolors and collages, each artist interprets the beauty, history and wonder of Honey Horn. Please call 843-689-6767 for more information.

HARBOURFEST 2008 –
Every Tuesday night all summer long, fireworks explode over Shelter Cove Harbour just after dusk as part of HarbourFest 2008. This popular annual event features live music seven nights a week, food, arts and crafts and more. Ever-popular singer/songwriter/guitarist Shannon Tanner, who celebrates his 20th anniversary on Hilton Head Island this summer, performs his family-friendly show Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. For more information, please call 843-785-1106.
