25th Anniversary Wine & Food Festival
Savor
the world’s finest wines paired with culinary creations prepared by
Island chefs during the 25th Anniversary Wine & Food Festival.
March 1-15, Great Chefs of the South features a unique menu of food experiences at some of the Island’s most captivating locations, March 1-15. Wine Centered Women,
March 11-13, includes an intimate cooking demonstration in a beachside
home, a unique spa experience and packaged admission for the grand and
public tastings. On March 12, the Grand Wine Tasting at the Sea Pines Country Club showcases premium wines to a select audience in a reception setting.
One the East Coast’s largest outdoor public wine and food events, the WineFest Public Tasting & Auction
takes place at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn Saturday,
March 13 from 12-4 p.m. This popular event features a Farmer’s Market,
a Silent & Live Wine Auction, the Outdoor Gourmet, Men Drinking
Beer, the Hospitable Waiter’s Race, a Bartender Challenge and much more.

Arts Center of Coastal Carolina
March is National Youth Arts Month and young artists and performers are center stage at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
In the Walter Greer Gallery, Arts Teach: Saving Planet Earth, a student exhibit showcasing 2-D and 3-D creations from the next generation of eco-conscious artists, is on display from March 4-28. On Saturday, March 6, Youth ArtsFest is a free, fun-packed festival of variety show-style performances featuring young local singers, dancers, actors and musicians.
Sign up budding artists and musicians for one of several classes and workshops taking place at the Arts Center this month or join celebrated pianist and arranger, Mac Frampton, accompanied by the ThreePenny Orchestra, for Pop Goes the Classics on March 20. The Hilton Head Dance Theatre’s spring production is an evening of mixed repertoire including Snow White, Paquita and Cool Hand Luke, March 26-29.

2010 Hilton Head International Piano Competition
Twenty
talented young pianists representing 11 countries will be in the
Lowcountry, March 8-15 for the 2010 Hilton Head International Piano
Competition at First Presbyterian Church.
Competing for $33,000 in prize money and prestigious concert
appearances, the musicians participate in four rounds with each of the
three finalists performing a concerto with the Hilton Head Symphony
Orchestra on March 15.
Several special events are also scheduled this year, including a piano
recital featuring 14-year-old George Li on March 10 at Holy Family
Catholic Church followed by Master Classes with six Competition Judges
and six competitors and “Humour and Tragedy in Beethoven’s Piano
Sonatas” Lecture/Recital by John O’Connor on March 15 at All Saints

St. Patrick’s Day
Officially, St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday, March 17. However, the celebration of Ireland’s patron saint begins early on Hilton Head Island, so don your green and get ready for a good time. Erin Go Bragh!
The fun begins at 8 a.m. on March 13 when the 15th Annual Hilton Head Island Shamrock Run starts at Heritage Plaza. Following the 5K Run & Health Walk, a Block Party with refreshments, music, awards ceremony and door prizes is scheduled at New York City Pizza. (843) 757-8520 or bearfootsports.com.
Down at The Salty Dog Café in South Beach Marina Village, the 12th Annual Kid’s Shamrock Hunt takes place on March 13. Starting at 10 a.m., children ages 12 and under are welcome to find four-leaf clovers redeemable for Salty Dog T-shirts, in addition to prizes, treats, children’s entertainment, free photos with Jake the Salty Dog and a special Irish lunch for the whole family. On Sunday, March 14, the 27th Annual Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off, rain or shine, at 3 p.m. at Coligny Circle. More than 100 floats, marching units, bands, local dignitaries and animal contingencies will make their way down Pope Avenue, turn onto Office Park Road and finish at Park Plaza.
